Five vegan apps on iPhone and Android

It is possible that among your new purposes for the year that we have just begun are the one of learning a language or the one of losing a few kilos doing exercise or eating healthier. Whatever your goal, you can find numerous apps in Google Play and the App Store that will help you.

Even if you’ve decided to give up your usual diet and go vegan (or you already were and need extra help), there are applications to prepare delicious recipes, check if an ingredient meets the requirements or find a vegan restaurant, among other possibilities. And most of them are free.

Vegamecum – Vegan Recipes

The Vegamecum app includes a wide selection of 100% vegetable, dairy-free and egg-free recipes, with nutritional information for each of the dishes. In addition, it allows you to follow the recipes in the audio version so you can cook with your hands and is able to automatically adapt the number of ingredients depending on the portions you want to prepare.

It also offers different tips and tricks, offers the possibility of making a shopping list and allows you to set alarms so you don’t have to worry about the clock while you cook. And if that’s not enough, suggest a new vegan recipe highlighted every week. The download is free, but it contains ads within the app.

HappyCow – Guide to vegan restaurants

Just look at the HappyCow listings and you’ll find a local vegetarian or vegan restaurant and health food stores anywhere in the world. It allows you to filter by location and keyword, views an interactive map with restaurants and saves your favourite sites for future use.

In addition, it is possible to get addresses, phone numbers, comments and information (such as the website) of the restaurant in question, and upload photos of the dishes when you are eating at it. The app costs €2.99 on Google Play and €4.49 on the App Store.

AptoVegan

Thanks to this free app, without ads and compatible with thousands of devices, it is possible to find all AptoVegan products registered to date in Argentina, Chile, Spain, Mexico, Uruguay and France. Its developers assure that they have been searching and organizing them for more than two years, and not only that, but they update the list daily.

In addition, it is possible to consult the list without Internet connection and mark as favourites the products you like to remember them when you are making the purchase. You can also share vegan products with your user community and use the ingredient list to identify INS (E-numbers) without leaving the app.

Vegan World Amino

Available in different languages, Mundo Vegano Amino is a user community where you can meet other vegans to chat with them and share your own recipes, photos, opinions and experiences. You can also consult a multitude of recipes and recent news, as well as discover tips and tricks.

It is also possible to learn from the veganism catalogue (a kind of encyclopaedia on veganism) and contribute to its expansion. The download of the app is free, does not include advertisements and has parental control.

Vegetarian Recipes

This application gathers thousands of vegan and vegetarian recipes from all over the world, and has specific filters to make general searches or to choose between types of dish, the difficulty of elaboration or special sections like “Lactovegetarian” and “Cereals and grains”.

Each recipe offers a very simple step by step, with photos and detailed explanation of the preparation of the dish. You can also create a list of favourites and use your own recipe as a shopping list. The download is free, but includes advertisements and offers shopping within the app.
